The numbers are in.
$11.6 billion: Chevron’s second-quarter profits.
$16.7 billion: Shell’s second-quarter profits.
$17.9 billion: ExxonMobil’s second-quarter profits.
Again, that’s profits (not overall revenue). For just three months (April, May, and June). After massive profits in the first quarter. Preceded by massive profits the previous year. While production costs remain flat.
Even though the price Americans pay for a gallon of gas has dipped a bit over the past few weeks from all-time highs, fuel prices remain one of the primary reasons inflation is off the charts.
We can do more than beg Big Oil to stop being so greedy.
The government can — and should — impose a windfall profits tax and return money to consumers.
But that’s not all.
President Biden has the power to ban the export of oil out of our country — which would benefit consumers, our economy, and the climate.
U.S. oil exports are raising prices for American consumers.
With exports rising, companies are building a global oil infrastructure that will make it much more difficult to reduce oil dependence — as we must, to avert catastrophic climate change.
To President Biden:
Banning the export of oil out of our country will help consumers, our economy, and the climate. We need you to stand up to Big Oil. Use your existing authority to ban U.S. oil exports without delay.
Add your name now.
Thanks for taking action.
For progress,
