Dear John,
If you have just a moment, I want to tell you about some big victories we’ve had this year that will help improve public education in Texas. Education is essential to self-government, and helps produce fine Texan citizens who have a strong sense of civic duty.
But lately, Texas school district performance has been on the decline, even as their revenues—funded by your tax dollars—skyrocket each year. Our policy team has focused on this, with great outcomes this year. Here are four ways we’ve helped improve education and hold school districts accountable:
1. In this year’s legislative session, we were able to successfully push for merit pay. This rewards teachers who do an excellent job, as well as teachers who are willing to teach in the most challenging areas of our state.
2. We successfully implemented efficiency audits—making sure that school districts must find ways to be more efficient before they can ask for more tax dollars. These audits will now be available to you before bond votes.
3. We shut down more than 40 bills that wanted to limit charter schools and the opportunity they provide for thousands of Texas students.
4. And finally, we supported an emphasis on classic American civics education in schools, instead of left-wing alternatives that wanted to rewrite history. As civics education has been pruned back in schools, more children graduate without an understanding of how our great state works and thrives. We put a stop to this.
The future of Texas is bright—young people are a bright spot in our state. But their potential is only as much as the education they receive, which is why we work so hard to reward great teachers, hold school districts accountable, give you more choices about where they attend school, and ensure a quality curriculum.
Thank you for your support, which allowed these victories this year. If you’d like to make a tax-deductible year-end gift to TPPF ([link removed] ) , we’d really appreciate it.
Thank you for reading this—and for supporting Texas education.
Sincerely,
