Jersey prohibits all corporal punishment of children!


Yesterday (10 December 2019), the States Assembly of Jersey adopted the Children and Education (Amendment) (Jersey) Law 2019 which explicitly prohibits corporal punishment of children in all settings. With this, Jersey becomes the 16th territory worldwide – and the second British territory – to realise children's right to equal protection from assault, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Despite this great news, only 12% of the world's children are legally protected from all corporal punishment. We hold governments to account on their obligation to protect children and support national campaigns to end corporal punishment.
