Time to kick off the week! Here's what you need to know:
CHIPS Bill Vote
As a conferee selected by Leader McCarthy to lead in negotiations of China-related legislation, I looked forward to working on comprehensive legislation that better equips the United States to compete against China. Before the conference process was abandoned, I worked with my colleagues on a package that would bolster our domestic supply chains and in particular, domestic production of semiconductors.
However, the legislation was packed with unrelated measures driving its cost to a bloated $280 billion with no offsets, and lacked guardrails which would prevent China from benefitting from it. Despite my support of domestic manufacturing in critical technologies like semiconductors, this legislation potentially creates as many problems as it hopes to fix. And with Sen. Manchin signaling support for much of the Build Back Better framework, which would worsen inflation, I could not vote in favor of it."
Protecting Veterans' 2nd Amendment Rights
Democrats brought forth legislation to ban commonly held semi-automatic firearms. I voted against this bill and fully oppose efforts to rollback 2nd Amendment rights. On the House floor, I also made a motion to include a provision to exempt veterans from the firearm ban. We entrust individuals in our military to handle semi-automatic firearms to protect our country, and it is outrageous Congress would attempt to strip veterans of their right to defend themselves as private citizens.

Interview on Fox and Friends First to Discuss WH Denial of Recession and Manchin-Schumer Tax Hikes
What Wisconsinites are experiencing at the gas pump and the grocery store does not match up with what the White House is trying to sell. In response to record inflation, the Schumer-Manchin plan to dump more money will only make things worse.

Judiciary Committee Markup on the Veteran Service Recognition Act of 2022
Under this bill, DHS Secretary Mayorkas would have the authority to prevent the removal of an alien who served in the military decades ago, but who would otherwise be removeable based on convictions for serious crimes.
I offered an amendment which prohibits deported veterans convicted of a felony related to a controlled substance from receiving a recommendation to prevent removal from the advisory committee or from receiving a green card after being deported.

Judiciary Committee Hearing on Oversight of the Department of Justice National Security Division
The integrity of the Department of Justice is of utmost importance. Americans faith in our institutions is on the decline and the DOJ's prioritization of threats influences its credibility. I asked U.S. Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olson a number of questions regarding the scope of its investigation into January 6th and ensuring resources are not abused for partisan gain.

Interview on Newsmax National Report to Discuss Recession, Manchin Reconciliation Deal
The White House attempted to redefine "recession" to avoid taking responsibility for our struggling economy. Despite this, Democrats will attempt to pass nearly $1 trillion in new spending and raise taxes.
