Do you find yourself constantly saying the same thing over and over at work? For example, I often see lots of jokes playfully poking at the overuse of “let’s circle back” or “per my last email.”
Well, for me, my personal tagline at work is “The best time to get involved in state legislative races was in 2010. The next best time is now.” My colleagues hear me say it repeatedly, but it’s true.
In the 2010 midterms, the GOP deployed an unprecedented mobilization effort around state legislative races. Republican’s spent $30 million on the cycle alone and as a result, flipped over 680 seats and 22 chambers from blue to red.
The good news is that we’ve taken the lessons learned from 2010 and applied them to our winning strategy. The DLCC has been leading a generational shift in focus and resources on state legislatures. But even in 2022, we’re still feeling the effects of the 2010 midterms. Don’t just take my word for it:
I recently came across this episode of The New York Times’ The Daily, titled “On Abortion Laws, it All Goes Back to 2010.” It does a great job of explaining how we got here, and how much of the solution lies in the work we’re doing at the DLCC. I wanted to share it with you today and hope you’ll give it a listen or bookmark it for later.
You can understand why I say “the best time to get involved in state legislative races was in 2010” so much, and join me in making sure we can continue to take our power back, defend our reproductive rights, and safeguard our elections at the state level – in 2022 and beyond.
Thank you for being on this team. Your support does not go unnoticed.
