John xxxxxx,

Before it became a pop-culture behemoth or a landmark on a tourist’s map, Brooklyn was a community where the working class lived — people from every corner of the globe pursuing the American dream.

It was the place where Hakeem and his brother developed their competitive edge playing hoops in the neighborhood parks. It’s where Hakeem found refuge in Bed Stuy’s historic Cornerstone Baptist Church. And it was there that he saw his parents raise their children with integrity, dignity, and purpose — values that he carries with him every day.

It was there, in a diverse and changing neighborhood, that Hakeem began his public service journey which has taken him to places he never could have imagined at that age. Brooklyn is the place that has shaped Hakeem into the person he is today.

Watch the video on how Brooklyn made Hakeem the public servant that he is today, and then spread the love, the Brooklyn way, by sharing it with your friends and family.
