Dear John

We might be facing up to the prospect of a new Government in September, but the old authoritarian agenda is here to stay.

You will know that Best for Britain has long been campaigning for a better democracy, and we’re concerned that Johnson’s potential successors are going to continue to push through egregious and anti-democratic legislation from his time as PM - while adding a few choice Bills of their own.

It may be recess, but we just can’t let our guard down. With that in mind, our Research Manager Maheen Behrana has written a blog looking at some of the legislation which is likely to pass under the new Government and examining its consequences for our democracy.

In the blog, Maheen explores the continuity between the authoritarian agenda of the outgoing Government and the legislation likely to be enacted by the new one. She points out that democracy is precious, but not assured, and shows how amidst all the drama and chaos of a leadership contest, the finer detail of the laws which uphold our freedoms is being steadily undermined.

Read the blog and find out how you can help us stop them <[link removed]>.

Best wishes,

Naomi Smith
