John -
With only nine days until the August 9th Primary, the Winkler team has been working hard throughout the month of July, building our campaign to make our communities safer and our justice system more fair. Please take a look at how far we’ve come this month:
Big moments
We held a press conference at the U.S. District Court building earlier this month where Ryan announced his P3 Plan for Public Safety. He detailed his plans for policing improvements, prosecuting violent crime and early intervention through diversion.
Our lawn sign operation has been underway all month. The team has delivered signs to hundreds of homes across Hennepin County in recent weeks. And we’re just getting started! If you support Ryan and would like to display that support to your neighbors, request a sign with Sieng Lee at [email protected].
Just last week, Ryan voted early! That’s right, it’s time to cast your ballot for the August Primary – you don’t have to wait until August 9th. Your vote for Ryan today will help secure his spot in the November general election.
In The News
We’ve been all over the news this month, so we had a hard time picking which things to highlight for you below. Ryan’s been busy: writing op-eds, joining candidate forums, sitting down with a number of outlets and he was featured in the Minneapolis Labor Review!

Endorsements
Every day our campaign is growing! On top of the countless people who cast their vote or commit to support Ryan each day, we’ve had a number of community leaders join our campaign this month! A big thank you from our entire team goes out to them all: County Commissioner Kevin Anderson, former Commissioner Mike Opat, State Representative Hodan Hassan, former City Council Member Diane Hofstede, Summit Academy OIC CEO Louis King, and Reverend Ian Bethel. Ryan’s campaign for County Attorney was also endorsed this month by Minnesota National Organization of Women and the Minneapolis AFL-CIO. Topping the month off, the Star Tribune announced that Ryan is their pick to be the next Hennepin County Attorney.
Parades
Parades, parades, parades – ya gotta love ‘em! The Winkler team had a blast at the Maple Grove Days Parade, Whiz Bang Days in Robbinsdale, and the 4th of July Edina parade. We all had a blast seeing our friends along the routes and making new ones.
Community Events
It seemed like Ryan barely had a chance to sit down in July. During the first week of the month, he celebrated Somali Week with many of his friends in the Somali community and the legislature. He attended an event in honor of the newly-elected U.S. Ambassador to Somalia and also stopped by the Somali independence Day Festival. Finally, to close Somali week, Ryan was honored to be a guest at the Super Eid at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Ryan joined the abortion march at the State Capitol during the middle of the month. With so much on the line for women in our community after the dismantling of Roe v. Wade, Ryan showed solidarity with women across our county and state.
It was great to get out and talk to voters at their doors this month, especially with friends. Ryan doorknocked with Representative Sam Vang in Brooklyn Center, Representative Heather Edelson in Edina and Representative Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn in Eden Prairie. We talked to hundreds of neighbors across the county and we continue to hear the same thing: families want to feel safe in their neighborhoods and in their homes.
Fundraising
We recently passed the final campaign finance deadline ahead of the primary election. We’re on track to build the largest campaign ever for a Hennepin County race. From Ryan and the entire Winkler team, we THANK YOU for helping us build a strong campaign!
Thanks for taking the time to get up to date on the race! We’re looking forward to seeing many of you turnout for the August 9th Primary Election.
Sincerely,
Team Winkler
