*December 11, 2019*
Dear John,
When we began this journey almost a decade ago, a nascent coalition faced insurmountable odds on, what many thought to be, a set of esoteric issues. Back then, only a handful of people saw the world of offshore and secret finance as a serious threat.
How far we've come.
We now stand on the precipice of a long sought-after victory to unmask anonymous companies. A new standard on tax transparency for multinational companies was just released by the Global Reporting Initiative. And, the OECD is debating a global minimum tax for corporations.
The once unimaginable is now possible.
So, thank you for all the support and encouragement to get us to where we are today. This progress is made possible by your ongoing support. As you think about your year-end giving, *we ask you to help build upon this momentum with a gift of $50, $100 or $250* [ [link removed] ]*.*
Even in this difficult political environment, our work together is moving the conversation and altering the dynamics of the debate. There is no longer doubt about the devastating role of financial corruption.
For all the progress, there is much work to be done. Advocates of humanitarian aid recently wrote to Congress that: "Corruption is one of the principle barriers to economic development and poverty alleviation." These leaders went on to say in their letter that the wealth drain from Africa - much of it held in secret offshore accounts - is large enough to save the lives of 4 million children and send every African child to school.
So, to finish what we have started - to build a more transparent and accountable financial system - we need your help. As we prepare for the coming year and plan to take advantage of the opportunities ahead, *we ask for your support* [ [link removed] ] and hope you will make a contribution today.
Again, many thanks and best wishes for a wonderful new year.
Sincerely,
