Hi John – July has felt like one bad dream at times, and I am trying to keep up the faith that better days are just ahead.
To recap this month, our nation was shocked by yet another horrifying mass shooting, this one at a July 4th parade in Highland Park, IL.
Just a week before, we were finally able to do what Congress hadn’t done since 1994 and pass history-making bipartisan gun safety reform. However, the bill wasn’t perfect by any means – it was just a start.
So, I’ve spent July leading the fight in Congress for more stringent gun safety measures that we still badly need: like an assault weapons ban and universal background checks. Without those key reforms, we won’t make much more progress in solving this uniquely American problem of mass shootings and the worst gun violence epidemic in the entire world.
I’m on a mission to see our gun safety advocacy through, but I can’t do it alone, and our work will likely take many more sessions of Congress to finish. At the moment, we’re currently $5k short on our end-of-month fundraising goal which ends tonight – can you chip in by midnight to support my re-election campaign?
