Friend, this is a bit of a longer read but I promise it is worth it… you already know that we didn’t just choose our partner states out of a hat – we’re focused on the places we believe are the true battleground states , where the fight for our democracy will be won or lost. Consider this:
→ It was a court case out of Jackson, Mississippi that became the vehicle for SCOTUS to dismantle and ultimately overturn Roe .
→ It was a court case out of West Virginia that gave those same SCOTUS justices their rationale for hamstringing the Biden Administration & EPA on climate action.
→ It was a court case out of Shelby County, Alabama during the Obama years that gave SCOTUS grounds to gut the Voting Rights Act – the consequences of this decision still today are impossible to overstate.
→ It was a court case out of Oklahoma that rolled back a critical SCOTUS decision that prevented the infringement of authority on Native American & Tribal land.
For decades, conservatives have steadily invested in building local power. They have methodically created a terrifying system where state legislatures can pass dangerous policies that make it up to the Supreme Court and rewrite laws across the entire nation – no matter who is in charge of Congress or the White House.
We chose our mission because we know that until Democrats start showing up and reclaiming power in so-called “red states” we’re going to face more democratic tragedies like the ones I listed above. Until we take conservatives on in their own backyards, we’re giving them an open highway to remake this entire country in their image – no matter where you live.
Friend, you have stuck with us through a lot and now our team is jumping into some of the toughest political battles of our time. We need to ask, can you chip in so we can begin investing in our five new grantees on the ground in these battleground states? [[link removed]]
YES, CHIP IN Now [[link removed]]
We’re already funneling resources their way, but, as you know, our grants are not just a one-time financial gift – we are committed to our trusted organizers for multiple years, so they have the time to actually make an impact. We know that they know what their organizations and communities need, so we don’t micromanage or influence their missions. And that’s the way it should be, these community leaders know better than national organizations exactly where your dollars can make the biggest impact on the ground!
Our team is aiming to invest over $2M in multi-year funds to organizers in our four states of focus by the end of 2022, but we’re going to need your help . We need to raise another $6,000 before MIDNIGHT TONIGHT to stay on track. Can you chip in so we can hit our goal? [[link removed]]
