Monday, July 25th: I was honored Saturday to attend the Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony for GySgt Milton H. Martin, Jr. held at Bryant Commons in Hinesville in Liberty County. An Uncle of Liberty County Commission Chairman Donald Lovette, GySgt Martin was one of the first African Americans admitted into the Marine Corps at Montford Point. The event coincided with the Martin-Baker family reunion occurring this weekend and I was honored to present the family with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol on July 4th, 2022, in honor of GySgt Martin.
After this great ceremony, I joined my good friend, Hinesville Mayor Allen Brown, and members of the City Council for the official ribbon cutting of the newly renovated Bradwell Park in downtown Hinesville. Complete with a sound stage, splash pad and beautiful landscaping, the project was built with funds from the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and will be enjoyed by the community for years to come.
I’m up early this morning as I head to the Marriott Savannah Riverfront to speak to the Mechanical Contractors Association of Georgia Affiliate Executives Council (AEC) who are in town for their annual convention.
Afterwards, I head to our Savannah District office where we have our all staff conference call before I meet with a constituent who has just returned from Ukraine and gives me a first-person experience/insight of the situation there.
Next, I meet with a group of pro-choice advocates who are concerned with the recent Supreme Court of the U.S. (SCOTUS) ruling on Roe v. Wade. After a tense but respectful meeting, I meet with the CEO of Tackle Medical located in Savannah to learn more of what they are doing to respond to the COVID-19 public health emergency.
Later, I have a live interview with One America News Network (OANN) where we discuss inflation and the economy before meeting with Clinton Young, the Republican candidate for State Senate District 2 in Savannah.
Next, I meet with Hermina Glass-Hill with Oceana as we discuss how we can work together to preserve our great coast here in the First Congressional District.
After a virtual call with advocates for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) who share their stories of living with juvenile diabetes and the need for more research, I have a virtual call with a representative from Coast Packing Company as we discuss immigration and fuel issues.
