JOHN,
Since the Supreme Court took away federal abortion rights, I’ve joined my colleagues in the U.S. House to protect the right to abortion and other fundamental rights.
One Supreme Court Justice who helped overturn Roe v. Wade indicated that they’ll come for marriage equality next.
If the Supreme Court overturns the case that established the constitutional right to same-sex marriage, people who are already legally married could find that their state won’t recognize their marriage. Right now, more than 30 states contain statutes or constitutional amendments prohibiting same-sex marriage.
That’s why we’ve passed the Respect for Marriage Act in the U.S. House of Representatives, which would enshrine same-sex and interracial marriage into federal law.
Please sign the petition to the Senate: Pass the Respect for Marriage Act to protect the fundamental right to same-sex and interracial marriage!
Thank you for taking action to build a more equal and just world.
In service and solidarity,
Rashida

JOHN,
After overturning the national right to abortions, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas indicated that the Supreme Court would come for other rights next, including the right to contraception, the right to a consensual partner of the same sex, and the right to same-sex marriage.
As attacks are rising against trans people and other members of the LGBTQI+ community, we cannot leave these rights up to the unelected Supreme Court. Instead, we must enshrine them into federal law.
Fortunately, the U.S. House has passed the Respect for Marriage Act. This bill would codify same-sex and interracial marriage into law. Now it’s the Senate’s turn.
Please sign the petition to the Senate: Pass the Respect for Marriage Act to protect the right to same-sex and interracial marriage.
The new bill would also repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, a law allowing states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriages.
Right now, it’s unenforceable, but if the Supreme Court overturns the case that established the constitutional right to same-sex marriage, that would threaten marriage equality in two-thirds of the country.
People who are already legally married may not have their marriage recognized, depending on where they live, because more than 30 states contain statutes or constitutional amendments prohibiting same-sex marriage.
We’re not there yet. But we must enshrine these fundamental rights into federal law as soon as possible.
Now that the new Respect for Marriage Act has passed the House, it's Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's responsibility to bring the bill to a vote in the Senate.
Sign the petition to the Senate: Pass the Respect for Marriage Act to protect the fundamental right to same-sex and interracial marriage!
In solidarity,
Rashida
