Welcome to Wednesday, December 11th, toasted and fresh...

Democrats have announced two articles of impeachment against the president.

House Democrats have announced that they will move forward with two articles of impeachment targeting President Donald Trump: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

“Today, in service to our duty to the Constitution and to our country, the House Committee on the Judiciary is introducing two Articles of Impeachment charging the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, with committing high crimes and misdemeanors,” Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) said.

President Trump took to Twitter to rebut Democrats’ claims that he abused his office by pressuring Ukraine’s government to investigate a political opponent:

"Nadler just said that I “pressured Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 Election.” Ridiculous, and he knows that is not true. Both the President & Foreign Minister of Ukraine said, many times, that there “WAS NO PRESSURE.” Nadler and the Dems know this, but refuse to acknowledge!"

USMCA

Congressional Democrats announced Tuesday that they have reached a deal with the Trump administration and Republicans regarding revisions to the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

The trade deal, which the three nations initially agreed to in November 2018, would fulfill a key campaign promise Trump made during his campaign to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

In a press conference, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said of the current version of the USMCA: “It is infinitely better than what was initially proposed by the Administration and I credit our Chairman Richie Neal for helping us to navigate all of these places. The unity of our caucus on specific priorities in order to get the job done.”

Committee Watch

Before bills and nominations are brought up for a passage vote in Congress, they typically have to be considered and approved by relevant committees.

We take a thorough look at the hearings Congressional committees will be holding this week in our Committee Watch, but here are a few we're watching extra closely:

  • Today, the House Transportation Committee will hold a hearing titled “The Boeing 737 MAX: Examining the Federal Aviation Administration’s Oversight of the Aircraft’s Certification”. 10am
  • On Thursday, the House Education Committee will hold a hearing titled “Examining the Education Department’s Implementation of Borrower Defense” with testimony from Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. 9am

How do you feel about this week's committee hearings?
