Our country is facing a devastating opioid crisis that has claimed tens of thousands of lives in California alone.

This week, we made progress in holding drug companies accountable for their role in this crisis: I joined with attorneys general in several other states to reach a settlement of over $4 billion with a prominent opioid manufacturer.

Here’s what that means in the fight to end the opioid crisis:

- Funding for overdose prevention and opioid addiction disorder treatment
- Relief for victims
- Naloxone to counteract overdoses

Nothing can undo the harm that has been done to families across the country, or bring back the lives lost to this crisis. But by holding manufacturers accountable and working to find solutions, we can protect our communities and help end this crisis.
