The fight for racial, social and economic reforms to our justice system as well as the intense national attention on gun violence in recent years, reminds us that our work is far from over.

Let me give you the statistics:

Every year, over 100,000 people are shot in this country – that’s more than 300 Americans every single day.

There have already been almost 300 mass shootings in 2022, including at least 27 shootings at schools.

Whether people are being murdered in mass shootings happening in our schools, grocery stores and even here in Chicagoland’s Highland Park over the fourth of July – or in violent gun fights in our streets – we desperately need action.

We have made significant progress in calling for reforms and accountability, but we still have work to do. John, please take a moment to add your name and reaffirm our shared commitment to passing commonsense gun reforms immediately:

The fight for justice is generational. My father, Rev. Jesse Jackson, and others led the civil rights movement that provided so much of the foundation for our modern-day activism.

I tapped into the spirit of that activism when I joined President Biden earlier this month at the White House for the signing of his gun violence legislation, the Safer Communities Act. This was the first significant gun safety legislation passed in nearly 30 years, thanks to the work of activists and organizations like the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Moms Demand Action, and many others.

This legislation will expand universal background checks and incentivize the passage of red flag laws to keep guns away from individuals we know to be dangerous.

Our work is not over – but the President’s action was a step in the right direction.

To create real change, we must stand together now. We must fight harder to achieve the ideals this country was founded on – including safety and security for all citizens.
