Congresswoman Lesko Weekly Update |
Good Afternoon,
This week, I was in Washington, D.C. for a busy week of votes in the U.S. House of Representatives! I was honored to receive the Hero of Main Street Award from the National Retail Federation! I am proud to advance pro-growth policies that support job creation and help retail businesses thrive.

In the News
I want to make sure that you don’t miss a minute of what I’m doing to fight for Arizonans each and every day. Check out my latest interviews below.
Newsmax
President Biden’s renewable energy only policies are completely unrealistic! Biden’s war on American energy production benefits Communist China and has sent Americans’ energy costs through the roof. Watch my interview on Newsmax here:

The Todd Starnes Show
I joined The Todd Starnes Show to discuss how House Republicans are going to hold the Biden Administration accountable for its failures. Plus, I discussed the disaster at the southern border! It is unconscionable that Biden and House Democrats are complicit in funding the criminal cartels. Listen here:

Lesko Opposes Democrats' Irresponsible Spending
This week, both the U.S. House and U.S. Senate voted on the CHIPS and Science Act. As a matter of national security, I support increasing U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, but I could not support the CHIPS and Science Act. This bill does not adequately safeguard federal funds from going to Communist China. The vast majority of the OVER $200 billion spent in this bill has nothing to do with semiconductor manufacturing. There are also not sufficient guardrails to prevent these funds from supporting semiconductor manufacturing in China or to prevent businesses from expanding operations in China. It is also irresponsible to spend nearly $280 billion and add $79 billion to our national deficit at a time when our nation is entering a recession and congressional Democrats are pushing to spend billions more through another partisan reconciliation package.

Lesko Introduces Legislation to Improve Nuclear Oversight and Inspection Practices
I recently introduced the Advancing Nuclear Regulatory Oversight Act to require the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to assess and implement improvements to their oversight and inspection practices. This legislation is aimed at reducing overburdensome and redundant oversight and inspection regulations for nuclear power plants.

GET THE FACTS: Democrats' Failed Economic Policies Created a Recession
Our nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) shrunk at a rate of 0.9% in the second quarter. This follows a GDP decline of 1.6% in the first quarter. The generally accepted definition of a recession is two consecutive quarters with negative GDP readings. Despite the data, President Biden is dismissing this and claims it is not a recession. Meanwhile, Americans back at home are struggling under the skyrocketing cost of goods and services, increased gas prices, and a 4.4% decrease in real wages. Much of this economic downturn is due to the inflation crisis caused by President Biden and House Democrats’ reckless spending. The inflation rate is 9.1% nationwide and 12.3% in Phoenix, AZ. Inflation in Arizona has risen at a rate of 14.9% since January 2021, when President Biden took office. President Biden can try to deflect blame as he has done for months, but the American people know this is due to his failed economic agenda.

Austin and Monica from our office toured the Ferrero distribution center in Goodyear, AZ! I’m proud our district is home to expanding businesses that are supporting job opportunities for the West Valley.
Austin from our office presented GrandPaws Pantry with a Congressional Recognition! GrandPaws Pantry is a non-profit in Glendale, AZ that encourages pet adoptions and provides pet supplies to senior citizens with pets in need.

Casework Highlight
A constituent reached out to our office because she was still waiting on her 2020 tax refund. We helped the constituent and the Internal Revenue Service identify the issue, and the constituent received her tax refund.

Encouraging Story
I want to share this story about some wonderful Arizonans in Sun City, AZ organizing a drive-by parade for Gino Mei, a World War II veteran who turned 103 years old earlier this month. Gino Mei was an infantryman who also earned two Purple Hearts. I hope Gino had a wonderful birthday, and I am grateful to him for his service to our great nation!
