Across the country, right-wing extremists who attended and engaged in the riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, are winning GOP primaries for congressional seats. Our opponent, Derrick Van Orden, is among them; he is running unopposed in the Republican primary for this district.
I am a national security expert who faithfully served our country in uniform. I have the experience, determination, and dedication to uphold and defend the Constitution.

While in the military, I chose to take on the toughest assignments in America’s defense. I took on Airborne training, served on the DMZ in Korea, and got my master’s degree from the War College because I knew that our country deserves everything I could give. My oath to support and defend the Constitution guided every choice I made.
My opponent also took the military’s oath to support and defend our Constitution. Yet he actually attended the riots at the Capitol in support of Donald Trump’s lie that the election was stolen. Derrick Van Orden violated his oath and cannot be trusted to uphold it as a member of Congress.
Saving our democracy for future generations has to be Democrats’ top priority. If we are to succeed, we must prevent anti-democratic radicals from achieving power. Extremists who were ready to overturn a free and fair election - and the will of the people - to keep their candidate in office have no place serving as the people’s representatives.
My background in service makes me the best candidate to take on Derrick Van Orden, but first, I have to win this competitive primary election.
