John,

"If that's America First, then we're f*ked."

This is what former The Daily Show host Jon Stewart had to say about the deplorable Mitch McConnell and his Republican Senate colleagues. Just after they discarded our veterans like garbage, by filibustering a bill to provide funding for veterans suffering ailments due to their exposure to toxic burn pits while in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Republicans line up to send our soldiers to war, but when they come home with ailments suffered from fighting those wars, Mitch McConnell lies to their faces them in the faces, says "we'll get it done," just before heartlessly block a bill that only a month ago had 84 votes in the Senate, including his. Utterly repulsive.

Stewart best described McConnell and his gang:

America’s heroes, who fought our wars, outside sweating their asses off, with oxygen battling all kinds of ailments, while these motherf**kers sit in the air conditioning walled off from any of it? They don’t have to hear it. They don’t have to see it. They don’t have to understand that these are human beings. Did you get it yet?”

We have incredible Democratic veterans representing us in Congress. For example, Rep. Elaine Luria of Virginia, who served with distinction in the Navy, and who now endures misogyny and death threats to courageously served on the January 6th Committee--to protect our country from enemies at home as she has from enemies abroad.

Luria is also in the congressional seat ranked as The Most Vulnerable by numerous congressional handicappers. We. Need. Her. Standing. Up. For Democracy. In. Washington.

As Stewart said, we can't just accept this "gut punch," this "betrayal" by Republicans of our veterans. But, also of women. And Black Americans. And working people. Really all of us, as they sit in their "air conditioned offices" and we're out in the heat.

Let's send a message by supporting the best among us, Rep. Elaine Luria, who served this country, and still serves it with honor and courage on the Jan 6h Committee today.

Will you join me in giving $2, $5, $10 or whatever you can afford to Congresswoman Luria?

Thank you for always protecting our country.

Cliff
