We just got a HUGE win to stand up to China and secure U.S. supply chains.‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

Hi John.

I wanted to share some excellent news with you!

This week I voted for a major, bipartisan economic bill that'll help lower costs for hardworking Kansans. It’s a huge step toward fixing our supply chains, creating good-paying jobs, tackling inflation, and standing up to China. The bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act is on now its way to the President to be signed into law.

I was honored to work alongside both Republicans and Democrats as a negotiator to help get this done. Please click here to learn more about it.

This bill isn’t perfect. But it’s a huge breakthrough – and it includes many priorities I’ve long pushed for.

For example, it makes major investments in American semiconductor manufacturing. Semiconductor chips are used in everything from cars to medical devices to consumer goods. Unfortunately, an ongoing chip shortage has contributed to inflation and driven up prices on many products.

But with this new bipartisan bill, we now have tools to make our supply chains more resilient. It also includes support for small- and medium-sized manufacturers – not just large corporations – which I’ve pushed hard for.

We’ve seen how the chip shortage has impacted businesses right here in Kansas. Cherub Medical Supplies, a Shawnee-based supplier of medical devices, has been grappling with long delays due to a lack of chips.

While visiting Cherub Medical Supplies in Shawnee, I heard about how an insufficient supply of chips is impacting local businesses.

Likewise, the chip shortage has contributed to higher prices for cars. In fact, it helped lead to the idling of the General Motors plant in KCK for several months last year – forcing nearly 2,000 local workers to stay home.

Instead of relying on foreign manufacturers, this bill finally invests in U.S. manufacturing. We need to boost America's competitiveness against countries like China.

The CHIPS and Science Act will also help create 100,000 new, good paying jobs nationwide by supporting local workforce development programs. And it turbocharges U.S. research and development, so we can back American innovation and ensure new technologies are made here at home.

I met with auto workers at the GM plant in KCK and heard about how a lack of chips was harming their facility.

This bill is a great example of the kind of concrete and bipartisan solutions we need to build a better future – one with more jobs and lower prices. I understand folks are frustrated by partisan bickering. As I see it, everyone deserves a government that works for them – whether we agree on everything or not. That’s especially true while folks are struggling with rising prices.

We can choose the path of listening to each other and finding common ground – or we can go on the path of extremism and empty promises.

I know which path I’m choosing. And while we celebrate this major bipartisan win, I’ll get right back to work tomorrow.

It’s an honor to serve you. If you have any questions or would like to share your views, please feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
