John,
I’m going to admit something that candidates aren’t supposed to say out loud – I don’t like fundraising. In fact, fundraising for my campaign is my least favorite part of the job!
If it were up to me – we’d have campaign finance reform, no secret dark money in our elections, and the people, not the corporate special interests, would have all the power and influence in our government.
But that’s just not how our system works today. So, candidates, including yours truly, often have to ask for money from their grassroots supporters to hire staff and build a winning campaign. (Or in the case of certain Republican politicians, they have to ask for money from their corporate sponsors.)
So, here I am, facing another end-of-month fundraising deadline, asking for your support. Will you chip in $6 to help my campaign win in Iowa’s State House District 1?
Please know, whether you donate or not, I wholeheartedly appreciate your support. Helping candidates like me get out the vote or just spreading the word to your friends and family, is enormously helpful. So, thank you!
Standing Tall for All,
J.D. Scholten
