How you helped make 2019 a standout year
|
As 2019 comes to a close, we're looking forward to what’s ahead. We’ve come so far together already and we couldn’t have done any of it without you. But before we jump into 2020, here are some of our biggest achievements from this year:
1. This summer, 23,632 of you helped us put the pressure on Westminster to make emotional and mental health support a part of diabetes care.
2. DiRECT, our study into whether type 2 diabetes can be put into remission, has proved that it's possible, with over a third of people on the trial going into remission after two years. Inspired by our results, NHS England, Wales and Scotland are moving ahead with plans to roll out a type 2 remission programme.
3. With the help of 30,000 amazing participants and challenges like Swim 22, One Million Steps and the London marathon, we've raised £3 million this year from those events alone. On top of that, we raised a further £2 million through our partnership with Tesco, Cancer Research UK and the British Heart Foundation for Tesco Dance Beats, the longest dance relay ever!
4. On World Diabetes Day, we launched our brand new five year plan, so together, we can continue the fight towards a world where diabetes can do no harm.
Thank you for all of your support.

After being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, Fatima decided to change her lifestyle, and after a lot of hard work, she's gone into remission. “I started to be more active, and when I reached my target weight, I could take my grandchildren to the park and play with them without feeling worn out.” Get inspired by reading her story today.

After this year's amazing advancements in diabetes research, our next project looks at what happens to our cells when we get older and how this might impact diabetes. This research could help us unpick the link between diabetes and age, and help prevent people from developing type 2 later in life.

Change lives this Christmas
|
"I hold him and just tell him that he's going to be okay, that he can handle it and he can do it. Your emotional tank runs out very easily when you're giving care constantly."
This Christmas, your donation could help more people like Sue and her family live life to the full with diabetes, no matter the type. Watch Sue's video to hear how you far your support can go.
