I have a bit of free time before our July fundraising deadline expires tomorrow, folks, so I want to share something important with you before I ask you to chip in toward our goal. This is a longer email, but it’s important — so please read to the end if you can.

Back in 2009, I was the first Democrat to ever represent New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District in the House after flipping it blue. It was an exciting time for Democrats — Barack Obama was president and we held the House and Senate majorities.

We ran on healthcare reform and fixing the economy after a recession that devastated millions of families. We delivered on our promises — passing the Affordable Care Act to finally make quality healthcare coverage more affordable for more folks across the country and enacting a sweeping economic stimulus package.

But once the midterm elections came around in 2010, something changed. Less Democratic voters showed up to the polls and Republicans went all in to pick up House and Senate seats. We lost our House majority and six Senate seats that year, and we didn’t win back both majorities and the White House again until 2020.

That brings us to today. We could lose the House and Senate majorities in a matter of months. The party that holds the presidency historically has a tough time in the midterms, and Republicans are spending tens of millions of dollars to flood the airwaves with ads attacking Democrats across the country.

Since Democrats won all three majorities, we’ve made historic investments in infrastructure, provided sweeping pandemic relief, made significant progress on gun safety, and are about to pass once-in-a-generation legislation to finally address climate change and inflation with the urgency these issues require.

We can’t afford to let Republicans flip our majorities, roll back all we’ve accomplished, and continue their attacks on abortion rights — but they only need to flip one Senate seat and four House seats to do it.

We need to make sure we hold on to critical Senate seats like those in Georgia, Arizona, New Hampshire, and Nevada — and flip seats in North Carolina, Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, and more. We’ve got to help Democrats like Gabe Vasquez flip battleground House seats. And we must elect Democrats at every level of government to ensure we have strong state and local leadership no matter what happens at the national level.

That’s why I’m asking you, personally: Can you chip in toward our campaign’s July fundraising goal to power our work to protect the Democratic majority and elect strong Democrats up and down the ballot? We only have about 24 hours to meet this critical goal.

We can’t afford to see Mitch McConnell and Kevin McCarthy back in power. Thanks for taking action.
