I stood on the stage with Speaker Nancy Pelosi for a major announcement today. That announcement was a trade agreement deal between the United States, Mexico and Canada (USMCA) that supports workers while protecting our environment, and this deal is supported by labor organizations like the AFL-CIO.
We've said for months that we can legislate and investigate at the same time, and we will continue to do just that as we move forward with a vote next week on the two articles of impeachment announced today.
The House has passed over 400 bills this year, 250 of which have received bipartisan support, and we still have more work to do as we wrap up this year.
Last week, my bipartisan bill to ban insider trading was passed in the House by a 410-13 vote. I'm very proud of this bill and you can read more about it here. The House also passed H.R.4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act, to restore the strength of the Voting Rights Act to combat voter discrimination.
This week, the House will vote to pass H.R.3, The Lower Drug Costs Now Act, that gives Medicare the power to negotiate directly with the drug companies and stops drug companies from charging Americans more than other countries for the same drugs. This bill will lower health care costs by lowering prescription drug prices, a priority for all Americans.
House Democrats have continued our "For the People" agenda throughout this entire year while working to investigate the President for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. While Donald Trump has been compromising our national security, threatening our integrity and endangering our Constitution and our democracy, your representatives in Congress have continued listening to you as we've moved through important legislative priorities.
We still have two more weeks of work in Congress this year, and I will have an update for you on the next steps for the impeachment process and upcoming 2020 priorities soon.
It is essential we move forward with this impeachment process with the seriousness it demands while continuing our work to improve the lives of everyday Americans.
More soon,
Jim
