Dear Friend,
I wanted to send you a quick update that four of my bills have passed the House this week!
These bills are absolutely crucial for New Mexico—and here are the details:
The CHIPS Act. This week, Congress sent a big investment in science and technology manufacturing to the President’s desk to become law—including the first bill that I ever introduced in Congress! My bill, the Partnerships for Energy Security and Innovation Act, will help our National Labs take research and innovation that they produce every day to the market to help us solve our biggest challenges and jumpstart New Mexico’s STEM economy.

The CHIPS Act will also cut costs for goods like cars, dishwashers, computers, and more by manufacturing more technology in America—especially in New Mexico, where semiconductor manufacturers like Intel are already creating jobs in our communities!
Water Security and Drought Action
In New Mexico we know that agua es vida – water is life. As the Rio Grande runs dry near Albuquerque New Mexico’s First Congressional District for the first time in 40 years, we are taking action. Today, the House of Representatives is passing the Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act, which includes my groundbreaking and bipartisan water legislation:

The Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act also includes legislation to compensate victims of the Hermits Peak/Calf Canyon Fire championed by our entire New Mexico delegation.
This legislation meets the urgency of this moment – this year, New Mexicans across our state have faced unprecedented early-season wildfires, our farmers have been forced to prepare for the Rio Grande to run dry, and our Tribes and Pueblos are without the funding they need to meet the drought and water security needs of our communities. I will be working as hard as I can to get this across the finish line in the Senate!
For months, it’s been an honor to work alongside my House colleagues to fight for a reconciliation deal that includes meaningful investments in climate, health care, and tax fairness. This week, the Senate announced a deal to close in on a reconciliation package that includes the largest-ever investments in climate and clean energy, lowers prescription drug costs, and cuts health insurance premiums across the board. I’ll keep you posted on how this goes—so please stay tuned!
