Dear John,
Americans have reason to fear for their civil liberties and rights to
privacy.
The nation's most pre-eminent law enforcement agency remains under a
cloud of criminal investigation for alleged misconduct in its
surveillance of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.
Last night on The Story with Martha MacCallum, I explained why some
folks are "in for a rude awakening " when
the criminal investigation is completed.
The conclusions of the long-awaited report by the Inspector General of
the Department of Justice are being disputed by the U.S. Attorney
General and the U.S. Attorney leading the ongoing criminal
investigation.
Although the president's critics want to take a victory lap, no one can
deny this report confirms abuses of power and improper conduct,
including 17 inaccuracies in the FBI's applications to spy on the Trump
campaign.
In a nutshell, the IG report proves the Obama Justice Department was
spying on the Republican presidential nominee's campaign.
That's a chilling revelation. I've been pressing for the truth since
long before the Steele dossier and Russia collusion narrative were
debunked. Going forward, I'll be riding herd to fix flaws in the FBI
surveillance process to prevent abuses and constitutional overreach from
happening again.
Keep in touch,
Chuck Grassley
United States Senator
