                                                                  July 29, 2022

Greetings,

We hope you had a great week. This Wednesday was National New Jersey Day, a great excuse to celebrate our amazing bagels, beaches, and even more importantly: YOU! Congressman Kim and our office are honored to serve you everyday.

As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful.

Congressman Kim Votes to Pass the CHIPS and Science Act

On Thursday, Congressman Kim helped pass the CHIPS and Science Act, sending the legislation to the President’s desk to be signed into law. This bipartisan legislation will lower costs for New Jersey families, boost American manufacturing, and bolster American technology research and development.

Learn more about the bill’s provisions to prioritize American manufacturing, address supply chain vulnerabilities, and invest in STEM education here.

Congressman Kim Votes to Combat Gun Violence with Assault Weapons Ban

On Friday July 29th, Congressman Kim voted to pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022. The Assault Weapons Ban of 2022 would ban the sale and possession of high-capacity magazines and assault-style weapons and features. This legislation is based on the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, which was in place for 10 years before it was allowed to lapse in 2004. Eight of the ten deadliest mass shootings in recent American history involved an assault weapon that would have been banned under the 1994 legislation and would be banned under the Assault Weapons Ban of 2022.

Congressman Kim on Senate Republicans Playing Politics with Veterans’ Health Bill

On July 13th, Congressman Kim helped pass the SFC Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act for the second time and sent it to the U.S. Senate, where it had already been negotiated and expected to pass. Currently, because of another bill proposal, Senate Republicans are filibustering a bill that would help millions of veterans impacted by toxic exposure and hypertension receive the care they deserve.

Congressman Kim said the following:

“It’s called the HONORING OUR PACT ACT because supporting veterans is a duty and responsibility we must fulfill. It’s not optional nor negotiable. Republicans have blocked this bill that they previously voted for because they are upset about something else. This betrays the name PACT Act.

“Now 90% of Republicans voted against investments in microchip manufacturing to boost our national security. While I disagreed with Trump, I voted YES to help our veterans dealing with Agent Orange. I can’t believe anyone would vote against veterans and national security because of politics.”

Congressman Kim has voted to pass the Honoring Our PACT Act twice through the House and will continue working to make sure veterans receive the care they have earned through their service to our country.

Wall of Remembrance Unveiling Ceremony on Korean War Veterans Armistice Day

For National Korean War Armistice Day this Wednesday, Congressman Kim joined the Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation’s ceremony to unveil a Wall of Remembrance at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. The Wall of Remembrance honors the sacrifice of 36,634 U.S. servicemembers and contains the names of the 7,174 Korean Augmentees to the United States Army (KATUSA).

Congressman Kim honors their bravery and is committed to upholding our enduring U.S.-Korea Alliance.

Congressman Kim Honors Our Buffalo Soldiers

On Buffalo Soldiers Day, Congressman Kim recognized the legacy of our Buffalo Soldiers, the trailblazing U.S. Army regiments composed of all African American soldiers. Buffalo Soldiers not only served our nation in combat for over a century, but have served to break down barriers, demand better from our nation, and fight for civil rights.

Congressman Kim is committed to honoring their legacy and helped introduce the Buffalo Soldiers Congressional Gold Medal Act of 2021 to award them Congress’s highest expression of appreciation.

On the legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers:

“Their bravery included so many different facets of American life both in terms of protecting us abroad, and making sure that we are doing our best here in this country to be able to push against inequality and injustice to fight for the civil rights that people deserve,” said Congressman Kim.

Congressman Kim Recognizes National Intern Day

Our entire office and Congressman Kim are grateful for the hard work of our interns in our Washington and New Jersey offices. This week, we said an extra thank you to all of them on National Intern Day for helping us serve you.
