Hi John,
Last time we talked about the federal climate bill we were, well, mad. Mad and disappointed. But, we said then we were not going to give up.
Now, we’re happy to report, Congress announced a deal that would reduce carbon emissions by close to 40 percent by 2030 through the reconciliation process!
This is a big, big deal. I am very excited about these most recent developments and I’ll let you know as we learn even more about how this can transform Wisconsin’s clean energy future. Things don’t “just change.” You helped make this possible. Right now, we urge the Senate to pass this cost-saving legislation that makes overdue investments in climate and clean energy, improves our energy security, creates good jobs, and builds a more affordable, healthy, just, and equitable future.
While this is an ongoing effort, the information we have now indicates this plan will help communities across Wisconsin continue to lower their energy costs and lead the effort to meet their commitments by incentivizing clean energy and transportation options. Wisconsin’s manufacturers and farmers will be part of the solution – a critical component for our state’s clean energy future.
As families are struggling with high gas prices, inflation, and devastating climate-fueled extreme weather, this is very welcome news. And, we owe so much of this deadlock-smashing announcement to you. You started this effort with us during the Build Back Better campaign last August and despite nearly a year filled with what sometimes felt like disappointing news, you never wavered. This is on you.
We’re proud of all the local and state leaders who listened to their constituents and championed strong climate action including Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Reps. Ron Kind, Gwen Moore, and Mark Pocan. Their unflagging commitment to address the climate crisis and bring clean energy and good paying jobs home to Wisconsin is essential.
We’ll keep you updated as we learn more and let you know how you can help get this potentially historic legislation across the finish line! Thank you for your support and actions. Because of you, we have the chance to make history and shape Wisconsin’s future.
