Hey there, did you see the great news? Groundwork Project just announced our next round of grantees from all four of our partner states!
That’s right – our mission is expanding and we’re bringing the pressure to conservatives’ backyard and ultimate playground. For decades, they have been able to use our partner states – and other red states across the country – to manipulate, obstruct, and hold our democracy hostage. The examples are endless – just take a look at states like Mississippi and Alabama where extremist policies are rewriting laws nationwide ( i.e. Roe and voting rights ). And the worst part: Democrats turned a blind eye and allowed it to happen.
We are putting an end to that cycle. Each of these FIVE incredible organizations has already been working in their communities where they have been building trust, listening to the needs of folks and families in these states, and building the people's power to influence policy at every level.
Our team is going to keep expanding, but we are going to need your help. With the midterm elections just around the corner, funding is becoming more and more tight for those outside of the primetime candidates and flashy races.
We are working hard to make sure our partner states aren’t overlooked as they too often have been. Celebrate our latest grantees with a contribution today. Our budget deadline is Sunday and we have an internal goal to raise another $10,000. Donate now. [[link removed]]
DONATE NOW [[link removed]]
When you donate to Groundwork Project [[link removed]] you aren’t just investing in this mission, your money is being funneled to the folks on the frontlines of the defining battles of our time. Our two grantees in Oklahoma are the perfect examples:
*
The
Julius
Jones
Institute
(JJI)
is
fighting
the
white
supremacy
that
plagues
the
criminal
justice
system.
*
The
Oklahoma
Parent
Legislative
Action
Committee
is
stopping
extremist
conservatives
from
taking
over
school
committees
and
public
education
–
a
trend
we
are
seeing
sweep
the
nation.
With your help, we have the opportunity to make real change in places that are often under-resourced and left behind despite their potential to have national impact, whether good or bad.
Help us hit the ground running and help Groundwork Project invest in five more organizations doing the work. Contribute now. [[link removed]]
Thank you,
Joe

IAJE was formed in the immediate aftermath of the 2019 ICE raids in Mississippi where 680, mostly Indigenous Mayan folks, were taken from their communities. Through political education, grassroots leadership development, and community organizing, they work to build the capacity of Latinx and Indigenous communities to become economically secure and achieve true racial equity and social justice. IAJE also has a strong LGBTQ+ program that seeks to support LGBTQ+ identified immigrants and their LGBTQ+ identified children.

Using a deep canvassing and relational organizing model, People’s Budget Birmingham is a grassroots coalition focused on giving Birmingham residents a say over how to spend tax dollars. The group uses a participatory budgeting model, where community members are surveyed about how they would like a portion of city funds to be spent for the fiscal year. The aim of PBB is to involve citizens in the public decision process and to hold the mayor and city council accountable to the communities who elected them.

The Julius Jones Institute (JJI) is the primary progeny of the Julius Jones Coalition. This organization led the efforts to prevent the execution of Julius Jones from 2017 to 2021, stopped an Oklahoma House leadership bill to limit actual innocence claims presentation to the Parole Board in Spring 2022, and has grown a large-scale, grassroots voter engagement campaign running currently to impact 2022 elections.
