John, we'll make this quick.
Since this country's founding, Black people have been forced to live with the legacies of slavery.
A part of that? Election hurdles.
When Black people were granted the right to vote via the 15th amendment, it didn’t stop the literacy tests, poll taxes, interrogation at the polls, and countless other barriers to the voting booth. It is now 2022, and we’re still seeing legislation that purposely disenfranchises Black voters – discouraging and preventing us from participating in democracy.
Many current state legislators have worked against Black liberation – but we are working
for it.
We keep us safe, and
we are the ones that have to fight for one another.
We are the ones that have to elect the people who will push us towards Black liberation.
Thanks to grassroots support in 2020, we were able to increase Black voter turnout in 2020 by 50,000 people - including first-time voters. Plus, we helped oversee a 112% increase in turnout by Black voters over 60 before election day.
We can do it again and go even bigger if we raise enough money ahead of the 2022 elections. John, can you help us mobilize Black voters by chipping in toward our end-of-month fundraiser?
