Shifting the paradigm around child marriage |
There are nearly 800 million people alive today who were married as children. Jaha Dukureh is one of them, and she decided to take action. Jaha organized around the issue and was able to obtain a fatwa against child marriage from a delegation of five imams. A fatwa, which is a religious opinion issued by one or more Islamic legal scholars, has the power to set the tone for the future of Islamic law and civic life. |
