County Fairs Are Kicking Off

One of my favorite times of the year is here, as county fairs are kicking off around Wyoming. Growing up, I showed shorthorn cattle at fair and it is one of my favorite memories. Every year, I look forward to seeing children around the state showcasing their animals and entries. Nothing brought to fair was thrown together the night before. It takes weeks and months to raise or create something worth its salt. The process starts months before fair and requires daily diligence and care. The kids that show up at fair are some of the most disciplined and hard working individuals you will ever meet. They are up before school caring for their animals, and they come straight home to care for and train them. We could all stand to adopt some of their practices and their work ethic.

I owe so much of who I am now to what I learned on my family ranch and at fair. It is a part of who I am, and a part of the fabric of Wyoming. I am grateful for those I have met at fairgrounds across our state and for the standout students I have had the opportunity to meet because of their involvement in 4H and FFA.

Best of luck to all of those who are showing this summer. Hold on to the lessons you learn and the memories you make. They will benefit you for years to come!

WORKING IN WASHINGTON

Legislative Actions:

  • I cosponsored the Colorado River Basin Conservation Act led by U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper (D-CO) that would extend the System Conservation Pilot Program for four years.
    • As one of the four upper basin states, the Colorado River and drought significantly impact agriculture and recreation in southwestern Wyoming. I know there are many concerns about water being kept in Wyoming. Continuing this program would help mitigate those issues.
  • I joined my colleagues from the Wyoming delegation in sending a letter to the U.S. Department of the Interior urging them to defend against a recent lawsuit filed by environmental activists on June 15, 2022, opposing the approval of 3,535 Applications for Permit to Drill (APDs) in Wyoming and New Mexico.
    • Actions like this from the Wyoming delegation show the Biden Administration that states like ours have the ability to help curb our pain at the pump. With crippling energy prices being faced all across our nation, we cannot allow the Biden Administration to continue bowing down to environmental activists.
  • I cosigned a letter alongside my Republican colleagues on the Senate Banking Committee to the Securities and Exchange Commission stating that its previous response to a committee letter demanding preservation of all records relating to its proposed rule on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) disclosure was insufficient and demanding preservation of records for Congressional oversight purposes.
    • This will help protect Wyoming’s energy industry by ensuring that records regarding potentially disastrous ESG disclosure requirements are preserved for Congressional oversight.
Committee Hearings:

Major Votes:

  • Passage of H.R. 7776, Water Resources Development Act of 2022 (WRDA)
  • Supported
    • This bill helps provide much needed investment in American waterways—easing supply chain problems—as well as flood mitigation infrastructure, and ecosystem restoration in both urban and rural communities like those in Wyoming.
WORKING IN WYOMING

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is holding public meetings across the state of Wyoming to bring awareness to their Hazard Mitigation Assistance Grant programs. These programs provide assistance for eligible mitigation measures that reduce the impacts of natural disasters. For more information on this program, please visit the FEMA website or contact one of my state offices.

I discussed President Biden’s failed energy policies with Larry Kudlow on Fox News.

News Around Wyoming:

Smokey skies in western Wyoming due to regional fires
Wyoming Public Media
The western side of the state, specifically areas near Jackson, Alta and Pinedale, have seen on and off again smoke and haze this week from regional fires.

Jackson-based meteorologist Alan Smith said it is coming from two large wildfires. The Moose Fire is near Salmon, Idaho and is more than 38,000 acres. Additionally, the Oak Fire is near Yosemite National Park, and at almost 19,000 acres is California’s largest wildfire.

Wyoming options limited in Colorado River drought effort
Jackson Hole News & Guide
Wyoming joined the three other Upper Colorado River Basin states this week in telling federal officials they will take on additional water conservation efforts but cannot commit to sending specific volumes of water to downstream states in 2023.

“We stand ready to participate in and support efforts, across the Basin, to address the continuing dry hydrology and depleted storage conditions,” Upper Colorado River Commission Executive Director Chuck Cullom stated in a July 18 letter to the Bureau of Reclamation. “The options the Upper Division States have available to protect critical reservoir elevations are limited.”

National Poll: Barrasso, Lummis Are The Two Most Popular Senators In Country
Cowboy State Daily
Wyoming is number one in the nation in terms of liking its governor, disliking President Joe Biden and now approving of its U.S. senators, according to state-by-state surveys conducted by a national research company.

Wyoming Republican U.S. Senator John Barrasso tops the list of the most popular senators in the country. Morning Consult Political Intelligence data shows 70% of Wyoming voters approve of the senator’s job performance and 23% disapprove.

My state offices are having mobile office hours around the state to meet with constituents. They will be available to meet with residents individually to hear ideas, comments and concerns about what is happening in the U.S. Senate, and also to help anyone having trouble working with a federal agency.
