Letter from the Mayor
Dear Washingtonians,
Help us spread the word: on Thursday, August 11 and Friday, August 12, we are hosting a virtual DC Government Summer Hiring Fair. We have more than 1,000 positions open across DC Government and we want people who care about DC and who want to make a difference to join our team.
Every day, I have the privilege of witnessing the work of the 37,000 men and women who serve our city. In government buildings across DC and out in the community, our diverse team of public servants works tirelessly and passionately to support and uplift our community. Working in government is rewarding, it is challenging, and it provides a unique opportunity?to serve and support the greatest city in the world.
If you are a DC resident, you can claim preference when applying for a job at DC Government, so I especially encourage residents to register for the job fair. Registration is now open and will remain open until August 7. DCHR is also hosting a seminar on Friday, August 5 to help participants prepare for the job fair. You can register for the job fair and learn more about the prep session at dc.gov/JoinOurTeam [ [link removed] ].??
Sincerely,
Muriel Bowser

Take the Black Homeownership Strike Force Survey
Survey
To address racial disparities in homeownership and household wealth in the District, Mayor Bowser?created the Black Homeownership Strike Force.?The strike force is made up of government and public experts in housing and financial counseling, lending/underwriting, real estate development and services, as well as representatives from the faith-based, senior, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ communities and advocates and representatives that address social and racial equity.
The charge of the strike force includes providing recommendations for uses of a $10 million Black Homeownership Fund and creating a goal for increasing the number of Black homeowners in DC by 2030. The latter will be informed by the work of the National Black Homeownership Collaborative, which has identified seven steps to increase Black homeownership by three million net new homeowners nationally by 2030, an increase of more than 10 percentage points in the Black homeownership rate nationally. The strike force?s recommendations are due in October 2022.
If you would like to provide feedback or suggestions for the Black Homeownership Strike Force to consider, please fill out the?Black Homeownership Survey [ [link removed] ]. Residents can also join?the weekly meetings [ [link removed] ] on Thursdays.?Questions can be emailed
