PFLAG Connects: Communities meetings provide a safe, virtual, moderated space where people with shared experiences can connect each month. Our current communities gather people of Latino, Black/African American, and Asian American and Pacific Islander backgrounds to gain support, ask questions, and learn from others who have been through similar experiences.

The AAPI virtual meetings are open to parents, family members, and members of the LGBTQ+ community who are AAPI. Each meeting will be led by members of the AAPI community who will guide you in receiving support, giving support, and finding resources to help you, your family, and your community.

Join us for this very special August virtual support meeting where attendees will hear from Terry Hu about their experience as a queer, non-binary, Asian American actor making headlines for their groundbreaking role as ‘A-spen,’ Disney’s first live-action nonbinary lead in an original film. Registrants for the event will also receive a link to view the film.

ABOUT TERRY HU

Already making headlines for their groundbreaking role as ‘A-spen,’ Disney’s first live action non-binary lead in an original film, Terry Hu is the breakout star to watch for in 2022. ‘A-spen’ is a super-intelligent, telepathic Alien who, after arriving on Earth, finds the uncommon emotion of love entering their bloodstream, in "Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 3," the third installment in Disney's hugely successful franchise, streaming now on Disney+. Terry will also next be seen in the upcoming third season of Netflix’s popular coming-of-age comedy series “Never Have I Ever.”

Hu is a queer, non-binary, Asian American actor. Despite being born and raised on the east coast, they always felt drawn towards Los Angeles, moving there the first chance they could get, to attend UCLA. Though tempted by the school’s renowned theater program, Hu decided to major in Neuroscience instead — a decision asserted by their parents and solidified through their own desire for a “safe” career path.

With that goal in mind, Hu eventually got into the top physical therapy programs of the nation after graduation…only to ultimately turn them down (after much soul-searching) to pursue their lifelong dream of acting.

From there, Hu went on to win the 2018 ABC Digital Talent Competition and starred as the lead in a number of shorts, including Oscar-qualified "Americanized" (2019), before booking Zombies 3 in 2021. Despite giving up the potential for a “safe and steady” career, Hu knows this path is what they were always meant to be on.
