“The administration simply wasn’t being held to account for what was going on in Afghanistan.”

John --

Yesterday the Washington Post released an exhaustive piece of investigative journalism exposing 18 years of lies about America’s longest war: Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan Papers confirmed what many of us have long suspected. For nearly two decades, under three different presidents, the American people have been persistently lied to.

Over 600 witnesses were interviewed for a secret side project from a long-forgotten Congressional inquiry that went nowhere. They were supposed to be capturing “Lessons Learned” so we “don’t repeat our mistakes in future wars.”

More than $1 trillion spent. Hundreds of thousands of lives lost. A total lack of strategy with “no way out.” Escalating drone strikes and entire communities destroyed.

And what did Congress do to stop any of it? Nothing.

The power to declare war -- and the responsibility to oversee it -- lies solely with Congress. Yet Republicans and Democrats alike continue to let a runaway Executive branch carry out endless wars with zero accountability.

This ends now.

Can you chip in $5, $10, $25, or whatever you can spare today to help us elect a new generation of leaders who will stand up to the military-industrial complex?

For 18 years, Pentagon and White House officials have lied about Afghanistan, just as they lied about Vietnam before and Iraq after.

If they are never held to account, they will lie about the next war, too. But if we band together, we can put a stop to America’s endless wars.

In solidarity,
