Friend,
Late Wednesday night, I took to the Senate floor because Republicans, in an eleventh-hour act of cowardice, chose to play political games with our veterans’ toxic exposure bill.
Just weeks after voting in favor of it, Republicans went back on their word and blocked the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our PACT Act — the piece of legislation that makes good on our promise to take care of our veterans who are sick and dying as a result of their service to our country.
Make no mistake: this was a craven, partisan game Republicans played, and the American people are sick and tired of it. Republicans are playing politics with the health and safety of our veterans, and more veterans will suffer and die as a result.
Let’s be abundantly clear here. This is a bipartisan bill. It has overwhelming support. The only reason it did not pass last night is because Republicans are trying to score political points by holding good legislation hostage.
We should have gotten this done years ago, and it’s beyond time we make good on this promise. Our men and women in uniform held up their end of the bargain, and now, we need to hold up ours.
This is an affront to our nation’s veterans and I’m livid. I will continue to fight tooth and nail until this passes — but I need your help.
If you’re tired of Republicans’ political games, can you chip in any amount right now to help protect and expand our Democratic Senate majority? I need more folks with me in the Senate who are focused on making progress for the American people.
