Friend,
We all remember the toilet paper shortage of 2020, but one shortage has continued to impact our lives for over two years with less news, but more suffering for American workers: The semiconductor chip shortage.
These nano-sized sets of electric circuits, known as semiconductor chips, are found in cars, cellphones, computers, and many other items we use every day.
For years, I have been working with my colleagues in Congress to move a bipartisan solution forward in order to protect and expand the American semiconductor manufacturing industry. I introduced legislation to address this critical shortage in the automotive industry because these chips play a crucial role in manufacturing and keeping hard working Michiganders on the job.
Just last week, I brought Speaker Nancy Pelosi and UAW President Ray Curry together for a roundtable discussion with workers to hear real-life examples of how Congressional inaction has hurt them and their families.
I am proud to say that I voted yes on critical legislation that will bolster U.S. chip manufacturing. This legislation will not only strengthen our national security and address the critical supply chain issues we are facing but will ensure this country is competitive in this industry against our competitors in Asia and Europe.
For too long, the semiconductor shortage has been hurting the automotive industry, union workers, and our nation’s competitiveness in manufacturing by the hour. With this legislation, our country will now be headed on the right track forward. But our work won’t be done.
Together, Congress worked to bring our supply chain home, boost our economy, and expand America’s competitiveness globally. This legislation is now headed to President Biden’s desk to be signed.
We need to continue pushing solutions like the CHIPS Act forward, Team. Will you stand with me today and make a contribution to fuel the critical work ahead as I continue to work to deliver solutions for Michigan? [[link removed]]
