Dear friends,
"You need to get over that notion that you will rescue me, I am going to die here. Focus on how to make my death come with the highest political price." These terrible words were uttered by the Egyptian blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah, when his sister managed to visit him briefly in prison in mid-June.
Alaa Abdel Fattah began a hunger strike four months ago to protest against his arbitrary detention since September 2019. His state of health has deteriorated steadily and his life is now in serious danger.
RSF urges the Egyptian authorities to free Alaa Abdel Fattah or he will die. We will hold them responsible if his hunger strike proves fatal. The persecution has gone on for too long, it is time to be released and reunited with his family before it is too late.
More isolated and resigned than ever, the Egyptian journalist needs your help to survive. Support RSF's fight for Alaa Abdel Fattah's release.
