How do we know we’re on the right track to reforming the Supreme Court?
But the other way we know we’re on the right track is that the attacks from the right keep coming, John. Here’s what some Republicans have said about our efforts to expand the Supreme Court and undo the GOP’s ideological court-packing:
|
Democrats will “destroy the court’s legitimacy through partisan court-packing.”
– Sen. Mitch McConnell, who oversaw the only successful “partisan court-packing” effort in modern history. |
|
“Packing the court is an act of arrogant lawlessness.”
– Sen. Mike Lee, who helped McConnell pack the court. |
|
“They want to pack the Supreme Court… It’s really unbelievable. This is a Democrat [sic] party that increasingly is at war with the American constitution.”
– Sen. Josh Hawley, who made a fist pump gesture toward insurrectionists as they were actively declaring war on the American constitution, then fled the scene. |
|
Court expansion “goes against everything we believe as Americans.”
– Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who apparently believes that insurrection is as American as apple pie. |
|
“If you go down this road, you destroy the country and there's no going back.”
– Sen. Lindsey Graham, who also once said, “If we nominate Trump, we will get destroyed… and we will deserve it.” |
Republicans are scrambling and trying to think up any argument no matter how hypocritical or how absurd, because they know that our reforms can undo the damage they’ve done to the Supreme Court.
