Building a Safer, More Independent Future

This week, the House of Representatives took critical votes to lower costs for Americans and strengthen our country’s competitiveness in the global economy.

It was an honor to preside over the House Floor this week!

I was proud to vote and help advance our Granite State priorities, bolster our standing in the global economy, boost domestic production of goods, and invest in a better future for all.

Strengthening American Independence and Manufacturing

This legislation delivers for New Hampshire families, and I look forward to President Biden swiftly signing it into law.

This week, the House passed the Chips and Science Act, bipartisan legislation to bolster our economy and national security by:

🏭 Making essential computer chips in America

🤝 Increasing diversity in STEM

💲 Funding innovation

🌎 Fighting climate change

🇺🇸 Strengthening national security

📉Reducing reliance on imports from countries like China

This bill, which now heads to the president’s desk, represents a powerful investment in lowering costs for American families, ending our dependence on foreign manufacturers, and turbocharging American research and development of semiconductors and other innovative technology to ensure our economic and national security for generations to come.

Passing My Legislation To Protect Women from Their Abusers

Survivors have enough to deal with as they recover – they shouldn’t have to worry about their abuser stalking them through their phone plan.

This week, the House passed my legislation, the Safe Connections Act, to help survivors of domestic violence leave a shared wireless phone plan and cut ties with their abusers.

We must cut red tape for survivors of domestic violence while they are trying to rebuild their lives. As a founder and co-chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to End Sexual Violence, I was proud to work across the aisle to advance this critical legislation to help survivors gain independence and escape the control of their abusers. I will continue working to ensure the safety of survivors and prevent sexual and domestic violence.

Protecting VA Employees from Sexual Harassment

I am proud to advocate for our men and women in uniform.

No one should be subjected to harassment at work, and a failure to address harassment against employees at the VA has a real impact on the care and services provided to our nation's veterans. Yet, 26% of female employees and 14% of male employees at the VA reported experiencing sexual harassment.

This week, I joined the Veterans Affairs Committee to question experts about why we still have not seen sufficient action to protect the VA workforce from sexual harassment. I will always stand up for our nation’s veterans and those who care for them.

Delivering Key Funding for Affordable Housing

I will continue working to expand access to affordable housing in New Hampshire.

Across New Hampshire, there is a serious lack of affordable housing, making hiring qualified employees even more difficult for our small businesses. This week, the Treasury Department announced a rule change, based on legislation I helped introduce, to allow states to use American Rescue Plan funds for affordable housing — a major win for our state, communities, and economy.

I’m proud to lead efforts in Congress to make American Rescue Plan funds available to help address this issue and strengthen the affordable housing supply across the country.

Addressing Health Care Workforce Shortages in the North Country

This plan would allow non-domestic physicians trained in the United States to work in medically underserved areas for three years.

Our northern communities are currently facing significant challenges in the recruitment and retention of qualified physicians and health care personnel.

Last week, I led my colleagues from both sides of the aisle in urging the Northern Border Regional Commission to address these workforce challenges by using its existing authority to implement a J-1 visa waiver program for U.S.-trained physicians.

The new nationwide 9-8-8 hotline offers 24/7 immediate and tailored assistance for those experiencing mental health and substance use crises. This new system connects callers with the closest crisis center for their area code to provide the best local support possible.
