unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit
of Happiness. – Preamble of the Declaration of Independence
America is the greatest nation in the history of the world.
When the founders signed the Declaration of Independence 243 years ago
in Philadelphia, no other country has fought to do so much good for so
many. As President Ronald Reagan said, “America is a shining
city upon a hill whose beacon light guides freedom-loving people
everywhere."
We should all be proud to be Americans, and I know our nation’s
future is bright. Today, our nation is prosperous, secure, and more
free.
Today, as we celebrate the 4th of July, whether you are
in your backyard with cooking out with family, watching one of the
many fireworks displays in the District, or on the steps of the
Lincoln Memorial, take a moment to give thanks to all those brave
soldiers, veterans, warriors and patriots who paved the way for us to
live in the greatest country in the history of the
world.
