Our country is in a time of emergency.
On June 18, people from all over the country joined us in Washington, DC and virtually to demand a reconstruction of this democracy and a reconstitution of our nation’s priorities.
Demonstrating our commitment and collective power is just one of the ways that we bring attention to the issues plaguing this country. But it’s clear that the 140 million poor and low-income people in this country - people of every race, age, faith, gender and sexual orientation - continue to be ignored by this nation’s leadership. As we move closer to a recession, which will hit the 140 million first and worst, the needs and demands of nearly 40% of the nation and one-third of the electorate can no longer be marginalized.
It is time to center poor and low-income people in our politics and our policies and take seriously the impacts of policies on these tens of millions of people. Otherwise, the consequences of our decisions will be felt across generations.
That’s why we need you alongside us for the long haul. Showing up on June 18 was the first step — fight with us for the Third Reconstruction and pledge to join us for the 7 steps leading up to the midterm elections.
In solidarity,
Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharis
