Work Advancing Education Goals Earns Florida Nurse Big Honor
And the Lifetime Achievement Award goes to … Jan Mauck, RN, who earned the recognition from the Florida Action Coalition. Mauck, who co-founded the Suncoast Nursing Action Coalition, was lauded for her tireless leadership and advocacy in advancing education transformation in Florida. Congratulations!
In their year-end letter, Campaign for Action
leaders Susan C. Reinhard, PhD, RN, FAAN, and Susan B. Hassmiller, PhD, RN, FAAN, celebrate achievements of 2019 and look ahead to the new year. Highlights include nurses’ contributions to the National Academy of Medicine’s Future of Nursing 2020-2030 work, and progress on nurses leading through policy.
A mentor can make a world of difference to a student struggling to thrive. That’s especially true for students from populations that are typically underrepresented in nursing. Now the Campaign offers research and resources that schools of nursing can use to start mentoring programs to support minority nursing students.
Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Panel Hears of New Delivery Models
In a panel discussion, health care industry leaders spoke of how their delivery and care models increasingly reflect efforts to promote health equity. The audience was the Future of Nursing 2020-2030 study committee, and the November 20 webinar is now online.
It’s been five years since the Iowa Action Coalition developed the Iowa Online Nurse Residency Program. Now Iowa has begun offering its successful residency program as a registered nurse resident apprenticeship program.
The World Health Organization has named 2020 the Year of the Nurse. That’s one reason the American Nurses Association plans to expand its celebration of National Nurses Week to last an entire month. ANA wants nurses’ ideas for a theme: Choose one of six offered, or suggest your own.

New - ANA Challenges Nurses, Teams to Get Innovative
The American Nurses Association invites nurses and nurse-led teams to apply for its 2020 ANA Innovation Awards. ANA will be honoring those whose product, program, project, or practice best exemplify nurse-led innovation in patient safety and/or outcomes. Deadline: January 15.
All Invited to Monthly Calls About Food, Housing Initiatives
What are the best ways to address food and housing insecurity, which are often the root causes of other health problems? The Root Cause Coalition offers two learning cohorts, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johsnon, so those interested in health equity can, through webinars and teleconference calls, understand how to design, implement, and evaluate social determinant interventions.
Journal Seeks Abstracts for Future of Nursing Issue
Nursing Education Perspectives will devote its fall 2020 issue to The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health report, 10 years after its publication. Action Coalitions and others are encouraged to submit manuscripts about nursing education research studies relevant to the report by January 1.
Statistical information plays an important role in informing actions to improve health. Guided by that idea, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) and AcademyHealth developed a fellowship program, geared toward senior researchers, to encourage the use of NCHS data systems and programs. Deadline: January 1.
AcademyHealth’s Delivery System Science Fellowship provides hands-on training and professional opportunities for highly qualified researchers with a background in health services research or related fields to enhance analytic skills. Deadline: January 1.
To increase the number of qualified nurse faculty, the Health Resources and Services Administration offers its Nurse Faculty Loan Program. Funds help nursing schools give loans to students who aim to become faculty members. Deadline: February 3.
Innovative midcareer nursing faculty members who are committed to a career in health professional education should consider applying for the 2020 Macy Faculty Scholars Program. Applications are due by February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.
