Notes from Mike's Desk for July 25 – 29, 2022

Hello, friends. Welcome back to my newsletter highlighting what’s happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana’s 4th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing and please consider recommending this resource to a friend.

I was on the way to speak to the American Loggers Council summer meeting in Natchitoches last Friday evening when I got the news that I was elected to a fourth term in Congress without opposition.

I am truly grateful for the honor of serving the wonderful people of the Fourth Congressional District, and humbled to now be given a fourth term to do so. We have so much important work still to do, and I know in my heart that America’s best days are ahead of us, and not behind us.

Kelly and I want to thank everyone for your confidence, encouragement and prayers.

IN THE HOUSE

During our House Judiciary Committee hearing this week, I took a moment to once again remind the Committee that moms and dads voicing their concerns at local school board meetings are not “domestic terrorists.”

For the Biden Administration to collude with the National School Boards Association to suggest as much is a glaring example of why Americans have lost faith in our institutions.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

As Congress begins its August work period, Republicans will head back into our districts with a unified message: the myriad crises created by the Biden Administration must end. Over the next month, Republicans will roll out our Commitment to America—a detailed plan to begin repairing the country as soon as we regain the majority in November.

I led this week’s House Republican press conference to discuss our plan, and to call out the Democrats’ desperate attempt to obfuscate language regarding our current economic recession. Watch my remarks here.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Putting America first starts with defending the rule of law and protecting our communities.

On Monday, I was proud to join the America First Policy Institute’s panel discussion for a productive conversation about returning law and order to our cities. Thank you to AFPI for having me and for hosting such thought-provoking conversations!

LAGNIAPPE

Wednesday night, I honored KTBS Anchor Gerry May on the House floor for his efforts to tell the stories of Louisiana veterans.

He recently notched his 500th “Hometown Patriot” story – which preserves the historical record and is a tribute to all of those who served. His work will ensure that future generations of Louisianians will better understand the service and sacrifice of our veterans, and I was proud to honor him for these contributions.
