Welcome to your Plug in Newsletter, keeping you?regularly updated on electric and sustainable transport news taking place across Nottingham.
The council secured ?930,000 from the Government?s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles through Innovate UK for the WiCET project. This is a UK first involving both London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) and Nissan Dynamo electric taxis, placing Nottingham at the forefront of green technology innovation. Five wireless charging pads are being installed at the Trent Street rank and nine council owned electric taxis fitted with wireless charging hardware.
Local drivers will be able to use these vehicles to charge wirelessly and provide feedback to the project team to help understand the real-world feasibility of wireless charging and to help develop the technology further. Sign-ups are now open for local hackney cab drivers who wish to take part in the WiCET trial and receive a free loan of a wireless charging taxi for 30-60 days. Click here for more information and the details on how to sign up.
It is hoped that taxi drivers will top up their charge throughout the day while they wait for customers. This will significantly reduce down time spent away from the rank using plug in chargers whilst encouraging the shift to electric taxi adoption to improve local air quality, reduce noise pollution and carbon emissions in the city.
The council and its project partners will closely monitor the trial and driver experiences with the technology. The project will then feedback learning to Government to help shape future regulations and delivery of wireless charging projects.
Construction is well underway on Trent Street to trial new wireless charging for hackney cabs, situated in the rank nearby Nottingham Station. The project will be a UK first to trial wireless technology with electric taxis!
The nine taxis, four Nissan dynamos and five LEVC TXs, have been retrofitted with wireless charging receiver pads and will be returning to Nottingham from our integration partner very soon.
Meanwhile, on Trent Street, the preparation work is almost complete ready for the five wireless charging pads to be installed. ?The bollards, fencing and safety systems are all installed as well as the floor paint and markings, which really help to make the space stand out. Information boards will also be added to the fencing which will allow people to learn more about the project and about how wireless charging works!

Ten e-scooter docking stations are to be deployed across the city in a bid to further improve parking. Each station is able to hold six e-scooters. SuperPedestrian and the Council have worked alongside each other to evaluate the most suitable locations for the stations, to ensure optimum e-scooter parking habits and safety.
Superpedestrian has teamed up with Standab, a Swedish design company that specialises in micromobility infrastructure solutions, to design bespoke parking stations which are set to be introduced to our streets in August. The system was designed in consultation with key disability groups such as the RNIB.
Made from steel and aluminium, the durable design also features extended side panels to accommodate Superpedestrian?s industry leading e-scooters, which feature a longer wheelbase and sturdier construction.
