Dear reader,
The bold climate agenda that once was going to be the signature
achievement of this moment of Democratic governance has run aground. And
many are worried what the future of climate change will bring to the
world.
It's time to start thinking about where humans can live comfortably,
and how returning other parts of the planet to nature can actually help
in the fight to mitigate the worst aspects of a heating planet. Senior
Editor Gabrielle Gurley writes for our Prospects 2032 series
about the big idea of managed retreat, which
would $1 trillion in rebuilding costs in flood-prone areas or parts of
the country with significant sea-level rise. It would also create buffer
zones to protect communities from wildfires or hurricanes.

It's a big idea that caps our series on what progressives can build
support for in the coming years. We're proud to have started a
conversation rolling on a number of issues about our economy, our
working life, our political processes, our health, and our future. This
is what we see our mission as, to tell stories about who has power, what
they're doing with it, and how it can be taken back for the people.
