Since the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision, corporations and
outside groups have been allowed to spend unlimited amounts of money in
elections. 

Many of these outside groups are funded by huge checks from billionaires.
I used my whiteboard to show the increasing amount of money billionaires
have spent influencing our political process:

That’s right–billionaires spent a combined $1.2 billion on politics last
cycle. 

Our democracy should not be for sale: Since being elected I’ve fought for
campaign finance reform that would reduce the role of special interest
money and rein in the influence of super PACs.

But until we’re able to pass meaningful campaign finance reform
legislation or reverse the Citizens United decision, I know seeing that
graph might make you feel like there’s no way your $5 will make a
difference. But let me tell you, John,
it does. Our average donation is around $25,
and it’s only because of the support of grassroots donors that we were
able to win in 2018 and 2020. 

I don’t take money from corporate PACs, lobbyists, or executives at Big
Oil, Big Pharma, or Wall Street Banks. It’s because of supporters like you
that I’ll be able to stand up against the super PACs and outside groups
supporting my Republican opponent and win in November
