It comes as little surprise to most of us who have been paying attention, but hundreds of so-called “pro-life” GOP representatives recently voted against a bill that protects individuals’ right to access contraception. It was a simple bill, yet the policy was extremely important.
Ken Buck voted NO, declaring that his pro-life views don’t align with…contraception—so termed because it prevents pregnancy, and in most cases these methods prevent conception itself. Contraceptive use and access has been linked to substantially reduced rates of abortion and increased empowerment of women.
It’s clear that Buck’s public zeal for families and for life is a total fraud, but the evidence has always existed of his twisted views on women, bodily autonomy, and family planning.
Take, for instance, Buck’s comments on whether there should be exceptions to abortion bans allowing for abortion treatment in cases of rape and incest: "I don't believe in the exceptions of rape or incest. I believe that the only exception, I guess, is life of the mother," Buck said.
You "guess"???
And if that wasn’t bad enough, when he was the DA of Weld County, Buck is on record blaming a rape victim for her rape and refusing to prosecute the rapist, stating that the victim might just have “a case of buyer’s remorse.”
These absolutely reprehensible remarks show just how little Ken Buck respects and values women. This man should be nowhere near a position of power, much less occupying a seat in the United States Congress where he can influence national policy.
Thank you for working to defeat Colorado's worst misogynist. Buck has got to go.
