Friend —
BREAKING: Wednesday night, Majority Leader Schumer and Senator Manchin announced a surprise agreement on a deal for a
climate, clean energy, and environmental justice bill that is putting us on a path to reduce carbon emissions by close to 40 percent by 2030.
We've been campaigning for this moment since Biden took office. We've been building the momentum and political will for a bill of this magnitude for more than decade.
We're about to face the most important environmental vote in a generation.
Passing the bill will require 50 votes —
every single Democratic senator. If oil and gas lobbyists pick off even one vote, the bill will go down. We're putting out a call to all LCV members:
If you're in a position to pitch in, please, renew your membership today, before Sunday's Membership Drive deadline. Even $5 is enough to make a difference.
We are still going through the details of the bill — but it includes long-term, robust support for clean electricity, tailpipe pollution-free electric vehicles, domestic clean energy manufacturing, and environmental justice communities, with particular support for working families and communities impacted by the shift away from fossil fuels.
We fought hard to get this far. LCV knocked on hundreds of thousands of doors, distributed tens of thousands of "Climate Action Now" yard signs, and garnered support from businesses all over the country.
Our state partners have held hundreds of events with members of Congress and local leaders in key districts and states, and we've run dozens of ads to make climate the center of this bill and push it forward.
We have to keep this going until the vote — but the truth is, we're not on track to hit our membership goal right now. If we come up short, it could mean scaling back our campaigns at a moment when the environmental movement
has to show up in a big way.
The best thing you can do to support our campaigns is to claim your LCV membership — all it takes is a gift of $5 or more. A group of donors has agreed to TRIPLE your impact by matching your gift, but only through the end of the month.
We have a real shot at winning this vote, Friend. But we cannot go toe-to-toe with corporate polluters and their lobbyists without the support of our members.
This critical work depends on contributions from people like you.
Here's where our Membership Drive stands now:
Together, we have the power to stand up to Big Oil’s army of lobbyists. We have the power to hold our leaders accountable to protect our communities and finally address climate change. We have the power to achieve a clean energy future and create a more sustainable world.
But we can only achieve this by standing together, Friend. I’m thankful to have you in our corner in this fight.
Onward,
