Dear John,
We are counting down the days to Atlanta (53 to go!) and the chance to see everyone. We have a pretty amazing agenda this year, but we're most excited about the Awards Night festivities happening on Wednesday, September 21. It’s one of the most anticipated events of the year because it reminds us how much our work and collaboration with one another is truly changing lives.
You will not want to miss A Celebration of Success: Annual Awards Reception and Dinner. Read below for details on what is in store for the evening and take a minute to complete your registration for SPN Annual Meeting.
Hope to see you in Atlanta!

Annual Awards Night Lineup: Food & Festivities
|
|
6:00 p.m. | Annual Awards Dinner Reception, sponsored by Dick and Mary Beth Weiss
Start the evening with appetizers and drinks and the opportunity to connect with old friends and new acquaintances.
7:00 p.m. | Dinner and Awards Presentation
The evening continues with dinner and recognition of the Network’s biggest wins and inspiring leaders, including several rarely awarded honors.
- Thomas A. Roe Award: Named after SPN’s founder, this award will honor an outstanding Network leader whose achievements have greatly advanced free-market principles and solutions.
- Overton Award: Named in honor of Joe Overton, creator of the "Overton Window," this award will recognize an outstanding COO or EVP who shapes their organization’s vision and strategy and oversees its day-to-day implementation with excellence.
- Bob Williams Awards for Outstanding Policy Achievement: We will celebrate state think tanks doing exceptional work in four policy categories: Best Issue Campaign, Most Influential Research, Biggest Home State Win, and Biggest Win for Freedom.
- SPN Network Award: In the 30 years of SPN history, we have seen one thing proven time and again: Our efforts can go further faster when organizations work together. This award celebrates think tanks joining forces—often across state lines—to achieve lasting policy change.
- 2022 Ed-Prize Grants: In partnership with the Walton Family Foundation, we will award the 2022 Ed-Prize grants to two organizations pursuing ambitious, creative approaches to improve student performance in K-12 education.
- 2022 Chess Champion for Liberty: The Illinois Policy Institute will present the winner of this year's chess tournament with the inaugural Joe Ocol Cup, named in recognition of the Illinois teaching veteran's inspiring work with students.

How to Make the Most of Your Awards Night Experience
|
|
Whether you will be there to cheer your peers on or are in consideration for an award, here are three ways you can help make the Awards Dinner a memorable experience:
1. Reserve your hotel room for Wednesday, September 21 (and the rest of your stay). Our room block closes in August, so don't miss your opportunity to get the discounted SPN group rate.
2. Pack your cocktail attire. The dress code for Awards Night is business or cocktail attire. Feel free to dress up a little or come straight from your last appointment in business clothes.
3. Vote for the 2022 Bob Williams Awards: You asked, and we delivered! This year's winners will be decided exclusively by Network peers. Voting is limited only to SPN Annual Meeting registrants, so make sure to register soon so you can cast your vote by the Friday, August 5, deadline and support the finalists you most want to win.
